Abstract

1483614 Moulding filled confections BAKER PERKINS HOLDINGS Ltd 5 Sept 1975 [18 Sept 1974] 40741/74 Heading B5A [Also in Division A2] Moulded pieces of confectionery, each comprising a cup containing a centre are made by depositing a pool of liquid confectionery in succession into each of a series of continuously travelling moulds, introducing into the pool from above a plunger to deform the confectionery into a cup and thereafter depositing into the cup, while still in the mould, a centre material. In the embodiment in Fig. 2, a pool 15 of liquid toffee is deposited into a mould 10, a hollow is formed in the toffee shell 16 thus produced by means of a plunger 14, a preformed centre (such as a nut or a cherry) is deposited in the hollow, a second liquid confection is deposited over the preformed centre, and finally a sealing layer of toffee is deposited. The whole, after removal from the mould, may be. coated with chocolate. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 2, moulds 10 are carried upon a chain 11 past a depositor 12 and below a series of shell forming plungers carried by a conveyer 13. The moulds then pass under a second depositor 18 by which a level filling is placed in each shell, through a cooler 20, and under third and fourth depositors by which a soft fill and a shell closing layer are deposited. The moulds are then conveyed to a device 25 by which the formed shells are ejected from the moulds downwardly on to a take-off conveyer 26. The plunger may contain an aperture 17 for cooling and shell release purposes and the ejection may be effected by a blast of air through apertures 27 in the moulds. Alternatively the moulds may be elastic, being supported by blocks 28 during casting and being deformed whilst unsupported by the block to eject the shells.
