Abstract
1,199,975. Producing carbon mouldings. VEREINIGTE ALUMINIUM-WERKE A.G. 13 Oct., 1967 [14 Oct., 1966; 1 July, 1967], No. 46921/67. Heading B5A. In a process for producing carbon mouldings, e.g. carbon electrodes, a mould is located on a table which is mechanically vibrated by two oppositely rotating out-of-balance weights and is mounted on springs. In one embodiment the multi-cavity mould 16 is filled from a hopper and weigher 31, 30 and is moved by a wheeled plate 15 to the table 12, the plate 15 then being lowered and the mould clamped to the table 12 by hydraulically operated clamping mechanisms 38. Weighted covers 17 having exchangeable closures 17<SP>1</SP>, 1711 for the mould cavities, are lowered and guided into closing positions and, during this movement, are coated with a release agent. The table 12 is then vibrated to compact the material in the mould cavities. The mould is raised from the finished article by an electrically operated block and tackle mechanism and the finished article is pushed by means carried by a chain 35 on to a conveyer belt 32 which delivers to an inclined roller belt 33. The mould is transferred back to the weighing and filling station and is sprayed with a release agent by spray 42.
