Abstract

1452255 Making sand moulds and cores SANTEC MFG Inc 25 Feb 1975 [25 Feb 1974 5 Dec 1974] 7847/75 Heading B3G Apparatus for the production of sand moulds or cores comprises an endless chain conveyer 15 mounting a number of mould flasks 17 with attached patterns 22 fed, in turn, with a sandbinder-mixture from a hopper 27 supplied via a screw mixer 34; the mixture is compacted by a vibrator 36 at the sand-filling station and is further compacted by a pressure plate 44 which may include means for introducing a gas for curing the binder. The plate 44 traverses a rod 45 during the compaction; further curing may be effected by an infra-red heater 46 after which a roller brush 47 sweeps away loose sand. On flask inversion at the end of the conveyer upper run the flask tops are brought into abutment with a second conveyer 48 on to which the sand moulds are transferred after being subjected to a vibrator 61. One end of the conveyer 48 is pressed against the flasks by rollers at the ends of pivoted links 58 acted on by weights 60; alternatively the roller system alone may act on the moulds during flask inversion, in which case the conveyer 48 extends merely horizontally. In a further embodiment a conveyer separate from the conveyer 48 is in association with the roller system. During the return run of the main conveyer the flasks are raised relative thereto and away from the conveyer 48 to separate them from the moulds; such movement is effected by a stationary inclined ramp 26 which is engaged by rollers 19, 20 on the flasks. The emptied flasks are cleaned by an air nozzle 65 and sprayed with a mould release agent by a means 66. The flasks have flanges at their upper ends which abut during their travel, and surplus sand from one flask is directly transferred to the succeeding one by a reciprocating scraper 38 guided by a wheel 38 and driven by pneumatic means 41; a piston means 40 tilts the scraper for its return movement over a flask.
