Abstract

1,145,087. Hydraulic apparatus for controlling mine roof supports. BONSER ENG. Ltd. May 19, 1966 [May 19, 1965], No.21110/65. Heading F1P. A supply of pressurized fluid P1 is passed to a two-positioned selector valve 2 through a valve 1, of the type described in Specification 1,123, 831 (see Division F2), the valve 1 being adapted to provide a different output pressure in a line 5 depending on the position of the selector valve 2. The selector valve 2 may be connected by a line 7 to the extension chamber 3 of a mine roof support 15 and by a line 9 to the retraction chamber 4 thereof. To extend the support the selector valve is set to connect line 7 to the output line 5 so that pressure fluid flows through ports 13 in the valve 1, displaces a valve member 17 against a spring 19, and passes through the lines 5, 7 to the chamber 3. As the pressure builds up in the line 5 it acts on the surface 16 of the valve member 17 to close the valve and hence establish in the chamber 3 a pressure lower than the supply pressure P1. When the selector valve is changed over to pressurize the chamber 4 an annular chamber 20 of the valve 1 is also pressurized and the pressure acts to increase the pressure at which the valve 1 closes to that of e.g. the supply pressure P1.
