Abstract

1,144,953. Road sweeping machines. THOMAS GREEN & SON. Ltd. 7 Feb., 1968 [8 April, 1967], No. 16189/67. Heading E1G. A three-wheeled pedestrian-controlled road sweeper driven by a rear engine 4 acting as a counterbalance comprises a transverse rotary brush 3 sweeping forwardly into a receptacle 7 which can be rocked about journals 10 for emptying and is releasably connected by flexible ducting to a suction dust extractor 15. The front wheel 6 is fully castoring while the rear wheels 5 are driven through a differential. Separate clutches are provided for the wheel and brush drives; there may also be a brake and reverse gearbox. There may also be provided a vertical-axis side brush (18), Fig. 3 (not shown) which is driven through belt gearing and dog-clutch from the transverse brush shaft and is raised and lowered by linkwork.
