Abstract

1,144,581. Two-for-one twisting spindles. PALITEX PROJECT-CO. G.m.b.H. 31 May, 1966 [4 June, 1965], No. 24160/66. Addition to 1,132,892. Heading DID. The two-for-one twisting spindle claimed in Specification 1,132,892 is provided with a yarn brake comprising a pair of arms 21 each provided with a brake head 24, the arms being arranged to be brought together by centrifugal action on rotation of the spindle rotor to grip and brake the yarn with a force that varies with the speed of the spindle rotor. As shown the arms are pivoted about generally vertical pins 22 which diverge towards their upper ends so that when the rotor is stationary the arms move apart to facilitate threading. Two radial guide channels may be provided on opposite sides of the spindle axis each having a pair of brake arms. The braking surfaces on the arms may be flattened to increase the braking effect; alternatively they may be made undulating and complementary to make the yarn follow a serpentine path. The arms may be provided with a bore along their length, lower at the inner ends, in which a weight e.g. in the form of a quantity of mercury may move by centrifugal force.
