Abstract

114,436. Coyle, A. M. Oct. 23, 1916. Ordnance b r e e c h mechanism. - Consists in providing a non- recoil gun with a smooth breech-closing plug which bears against a fixed abutment when the gun is fired. During elevation the breech of the gun moves over a hard steel abutment surface 32, Fig. 2, on the carriage 27 which serves to support the breach plug 41 during firing. The plug is unseated, after the breech of the gun has been raised to the loading position, by handles 42, Fig. 5, carrying wedges or cams 43 bearing against the standing breech, the plug being then guided axially to the rear by a rod 71 sliding in a bracket 76, and being finally swung aside about a pivot 73, the bracket 76 being guided by rollers 77 on a rail 74.
