Abstract
1,142,318. Spray carburetters. ZENITH CARBURETTER CO. Ltd. Aug. 1, 1967 [Aug. 12, 1966; April 20, 1967], Nos. 36237/66 and 18270/67. Heading F1B, In a carburetter, having a suction-operated air valve 12 co-operating with a induction passage wall 15 to provide a variable throat 16, the air flow into the mixing chamber 22 additional to the air flow through the throat is adjustable by at least one valve 43 in a passage 42, 37 through which a part of the additional air flows. Slide valve 12 is connected to a movable diaphragm 24 biased by spring 29 and acted on by ambient pressure in a chamber 26 and the pressure in mixing chamber 22 which is communicated via opening 27. A pump (not shown) supplies fuel to chamber 32 through an inlet valve (not shown) controlled by a pivoted float 33. A fuel jet 34, controlled by a tapered needle 35 carried by the slide valve 12, enables fuel to be drawn into the passage 11 by air flow across the jet 34. The adjustable air passage 42, 37 enables the total additional air flow of nominally identical carburetters to be standardized thus compensating for the leakages associated with the working clearances of the slide valve 12. A sealing disc 46 may be fitted in a counterbore 41 over screw-threaded plug 43. Diaphragm 24 may be replaced by a piston sliding in a cylinder. A further passage 47, Fig. 2, controlled by a screw-threaded plug 52 having a tapered needle 53, is provided for a fine adjustment of the additional air after coarse setting of the screw plug 43 is completed.
