Abstract
1,141,932. Electromagnets. A. F. DORMEYER [trading as DORMEYER INDUSTRIES]. 28 Oct., 1966, No. 48513/66. Heading H1P. The plunger 13 of an electromagnet is slidable in a tube 10 of non-magnetic material one end of which is secured at 20 to a plug 11 formed with an integral radial flange 18 and the other end of which is received in a bore in a face plate 12 having a radial flange 23. The tube is flared at 22 to retain the face plate. The coil 14 is wound on the tube 10 between the flanges and is insulated therefrom by tape 24 and washers 25. When the coil is de-energized the plunger is withdrawn by a spring 39 acting between the face plate 12 and a collar 42 held on the end of the plunger by a retaining ring 43. A non-magnetic spring cover 45, which also acts as a plunger stop, is screwed to the face plate. The electromagnet is clamped to a mounting plate 30 by a nut 33 on the plug 11, and this plug also carries a cover 15 of magnetic material. In a modification (Fig. 5, not shown) the collar 42 is replaced by an integral flange (43A) on the end of the plunger. An alternative embodiment is described (Figs. 6-11, not shown) in which the plunger is withdrawn when the coil is energized and is extended by an external spring.
