Also in Divisions A4 and B1] A stirring kettle for crushing oil-palm fruits comprises: a cylindrical housing 1, which is closed at its upper end by a hood 2 and at its lower end by a foundation plate 3, which, like the part 4, of the adjoining cylindrical walls, is provided with one or more outlet apertures 5; a heating jacket 6 with steam inlet and outlet 7 and 8; a central driving shaft 12 supported by bearings 11 and 13; and a stirring member 18. This stirring member is crank-shaped and its axial end-parts 19 and 20 are supported, by bearings, in arms 23 and 24 secured to the central shaft 12. The axial part 19 carries a gear wheel 25 in mesh with an externally toothed gear ring 26 secured to a cover 10, and the lower axial part 20 is provided with a knife 31, which rotates in the space surrounding a cup 30 to keep the outlet apertures 5 clear. When shaft 12 is rotated the stirring member rotates with it, and, due to the gears 25 and 26, the stirring member also rotates about its own centre-line 27. In further embodiments, the stirring member may be rotated by a gear wheel (32 Fig. 2, not shown) in mesh with an internally toothed gear wheel (33), or the kettle may contain two stirring members whose upper axial parts (19b and 19c), Fig. 3 (not shown), are coupled to a shaft (12b) by arms (23b and 23c) and carry gear wheels (35 and 37) which are in mesh with an internally toothed gear wheel (36) and an externally toothed gear wheel (38) respectively.
