Class 86 [Also in Groups I, VI, VIII and XXIII] Apparatus for use as a mixer, grinder, masher, mincer, cooker or washer comprises a pressure proof container, which can be heated, having, inside, a plurality of perpendicular rows of projections for supporting sieves or trays and provided with a removable lid, a safety valve or pressure regulator, and a removable shaft supporting an adjustable stirring, cutting or grinding implement for rotation within the container. As shown, a metal heat insulated pressure-proof vessel 7 has a closable outlet 8 at the bottom and below the detachable lid 9 two openings 10 and 11 to which may be connected tubes or pipes. At the bottom of the container there is a bearing 12 for a rotatable removable shaft 13 to which are attached stirrers or agitators which shaft passes through an opening 30 in the lid 9 which contains a pressureproof packing and can be closed by a small lid. The lid 9 has hinged side parts and a centre part which supports the driving mechanism for shaft 13. This mechanism comprises a frame 15, gear wheels 17 and 18 reversibly turned by a handle 16, motor and belt, or pedals and gearing. Three or more rows of teeth 14 are provided for supporting sieves or trays. A perforated paddle may be used for mixing or frames 26 may be attached to shaft 13 carrying horizontal and vertical knives 27, 28 Fig. 2 or oblique knives. Two or more perforated sieves may be provided the lower sieves having smaller perforations than the uper ones and the stirrers being interrupted so that they rotate between the sieves. Food may be cooked under pressure and mixed in annular pots 78, 84,, 85, Fig. 11, supported on shelves 75, 76 whose contents are stirred by paddles 82 carried on adjustable arms turned by shaft 13.
