Abstract

976,056. Rotary-scythe mowers. R. H. BRINKWORTH. April 16, 1963 [April 27, 1962], No. 14784/63. Heading A1F. A rotary-scythe lawn-mower comprises a chassis 10 having four fixed vertical bearings 11, a spindle 19 journalled in each bearing, a gear 20 fixed to each spindle and in mesh with its neighbour, blades 22 fixed to the outer spindles so that their cutting paths overlap, and one of the spindles being extended so as to be connectable to driving means for effecting rotation of the spindles. The chassis comprises a flat plate with a downwardly-extending flange 10a around it to enclose the cutters, the plate having a smaller flange 15 on its upper surface enclosing the gears. A cover 16 on the gear casing has four integral bearings 17 to receive the spindles 19, and one extended bearing 18 to carry a spindle which can be connected to a tractor power take-off 31. Eyes 24 on the plate 10 suspend the device from the power lift 28, through chains 25. The blades 22 terminate in cutters 23 and contra-rotate, the cuttings being ejected rearwardly through a central outlet integral with the flange 10a.
