Abstract
1,096,140. Combine-harvesters. TEXAS INDUSTRIES Inc. Aug. 3, 1965 [Aug. 14, 1964], No. 13583/67. Divided out of 1,096,137. Heading A1F. In a combine-harvester having a cutting table in two parts separately pivoted to an elevator housing so as to be swingable, for transport, upwardly about longitudinal axes, sealing means are provided between the elevator table and the housing. The table comprises two identical halves, each having a cutter-bar 35, a reel 50, and an auger-section 36. Each table-part 4 is pivoted about an axis 13 and can be raised by the operation of hydraulic rams (Fig. 4, not shown). Each table-part is supported by a ground-wheel 40, in normal operation, which is adjustable by a ram 42. The elevator-housing 5 is pivoted to the harvester-body 1 about the axis 8 of the upper elevator-sprocket and is adjustable by a ram 84. A further ram 64 operates on the frame 49 carrying each reel. Drive to the table-parts is taken from a shaft 65 on top of the housing 5 through two universal joints 68 which are vertically above the pivots 13, to gearboxes 70, via telescopic shafts 69. From each gearbox beltdrives 78, 80 and 75 are taken to the reel and auger-sections respectively and a shaft 82 drives the cutter-bar through an eccentric 83. The reels comprise bars 57 carrying tines 56, the bars being attached to arms 55 pivoted to hubs 53; the arms and tine-bars can be swung into various positions and retained therein by spring-loaded pins 61 engaging a central apertured disc 59 on each reel. The elevator housing (Fig. 8) terminates in a flat face with two apertures 85 which mate with corresponding apertures in the rear wall of the table. Sealing means comprising spring-loaded pads (Figs. 9 11 not shown) is provided around the apertures in the table-wall. In a modification the apertures 85 are circular and co-axial with the axis of rotation of the table halves the sealing means then comprising annular ball-bearings between the table-halves and the housing which remain in contact in all positions of the table.
