Abstract

792,939. Mowing machines. TORO MANUFACTURING CORPORATION. May 22, 1956 No. 15846/56. Class 6(3). A gang mower comprises a plurality of mowing assemblies 10 and 11 each comprising a rigid frame supporting one and two cutting mechanisms respectively. The frames are pivotally interconnected at their corners and the vertical shafts of the cutting mechanisms are interconnected by telescopic drive shafts so that the separate assemblies may pivot with respect to each other without interrupting the drive from the power take-off of the tractor, which is drawing the mower, to the cutting mechanisms. The assemblies are further connected by telescopic joints 90 between the gear casings 62 of each of the cutting mechanisms, a pin 92 being provided for locking the joint at the required extension, whereby for transport purposes it is possible to lock the outer assemblies in inoperative positions. Each assembly is supported by caster wheels 29 and 39, the heights of which may be adjusted simultaneously by means of the lever 50. Each cutting mechanism comprises blades 75 pivotally mounted between plates 74 at the lower end of a vertical shaft which is encased in oil in a sleeve 69. A stop 77 is provided for preventing the blade during rotation from aligning itself with the longitudinal axis of the supporting plates.
