Abstract

1347526 Mowers PHILIPS GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN NV 19 April 1971 [23 Jan 1970] 20070/71 Heading A1F To reduce unnecessary effort in propelling a hand or battery driven lawn mower having a ledger blade and a reel rotating about a horizontal axis, the reel diameter is over 16 cm and circumferential spacing of the blades is from 3.5 to 6 cm, and the ratio of the peripheral speed of the reel to the travelling speed is from 1:1 to 3:1 when travelling at 1 m/sec so that the number of cutting actions is relatively low and the number of times each blade of grass is cut is kept to a minimum, preferably once only. The ledger blade is positioned in or forward of the vertical plane containing the reel axis and either the ledger blade or the reel blades may be mounted so that the drag of material engaged between them urges the blades together.
