Abstract
1,141,362. Laminated building panel; building elements. MITCHELL CONSTRUCTION KINNEAR MOODIE GROUP Ltd., and C. BROOKS. 6 Jan., 1966 [11 Jan., 1965; 11 June, 1965], Nos. 1214/65 and 24837/65. Headings B5A and B5N. [Also in Division E1] A laminated panel comprises a number of layers bonded together by expanded plastics, an outermost layer being formed either in one piece or from a number of pieces which piece or pieces are formed solely from moulded or cast granular material or burnt clay and another layer being formed from concrete. The outermost layer may comprise concrete reinforced with steel rods and which has been rendered dense by vibration. The pieces comprising the outermost layer may comprise bricks, tiles which may be overlapped or interlocked and may be held together by the expanded plastics material. Polyurethane is the specified expanded plastics material. The panels may be provided with openings to receive jamb, sill and lintel units and one or both outer layers thereof may be provided on their edges with longitudinally extending recesses. Panels may be made by laying the individual pieces in a mould and either (a) applying thereto a layer of plastics foam and then applying a layer of concrete or other mouldable structural material which sets rigid in situ or (b) positioning a layer of concrete adjacent to the pieces and injecting a foamable plastics material into the space between the pieces and the concrete and (c) applying thereto a layer of plastics foam, removing the resultant composite and applying it foam surface down to an unset layer of concrete, the mould optionally being shaped to align the pieces. Where the outermost layer is formed from a number of pieces, the pieces adjacent two opposite edges of the panel may be omitted.
