Abstract

1,141,259. Bearings. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. 24 Oct., 1967 [26 Oct., 1966], No. 47963/66. Heading F2A. In a magnetic thrust bearing two axially polarized magnets are mounted coaxially and have like polar faces located adjacent one another, one of the magnets being rotatable about a guide-pin and being encapsulated in a housing of non-magnetic material. In an embodiment a magnetic bearing of an electricity meter comprises an axially polarized annular permanent magnet 2 which is enclosed in a moulded body 1 and a similar magnet 6 which is enclosed in a moulded body 5. The bodies 1 and 5 may be of synthetic plastics material, the former being attached to a rotor-shaft 3 and the latter being secured on a metal sleeve 7 carried by a frame 8 of the meter. The guide-pin 11, having a moulded-bushing 12 at one end thereof, is mounted within a steppedbore of the sleeve 7, being locked in position by a threaded-cap 13. The pin is resiliently radially supported within the sleeve 7 by means of a double-walled sleeve 14 which may be made of synthetic plastics material; and is received in a central bearing aperture formed in the body 1.
