Abstract
1,140,689. Speed-responsive switches. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. 4 Feb., 1966, No. 4966/66. Heading H1N. A switch unit suitable for controlling the starting winding of an A.C. motor consists of a snap-action switch 40 and a non-snap switch 70 in a common housing 32, the non-snap switch having a flexible contact arm 121 which applies a bias to an operating plunger 84 to cushion the plunger as it reaches its extreme position in one direction as a result of a continuous bias applied to the plunger by a toggle spring 114 of the snap switch. The switch 40 has a contact 52 movable between fixed contacts 97, 98 and biased to contact 98 by spring 114. Release of the plunger 84 by a speed-responsive member 77, causes contact 52 to change over, and contact 123 on arm 121 to close. The arm 121 passes through an over-sized slot 128 in the plunger so as to be operated with a lost motion, the plunger movement being limited by a plunger recess 131 and housing projection 132. The contacts 99, 123 are connected in an auxiliary circuit via terminals 71, 73, but in a modification (Fig. 15) in which these contacts are normally closed and the moving contact 181 is connected to terminal 54 of the snap-switch, the non-snap switch is connected in the circuit of the start winding of a two-speed motor, the low- and high-speed main windings of which are controlled by the snap switch. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,081,528.
