Abstract

1440807 Retractive reversing switch; trigger switch SKIL (NEDERLAND) NV 19 July 1973 [27 July 1972] 34506/73 Heading H1N A reversing switch for incorporation into the housing of a portable tool driven by an electric motor has a pivotal reversing arm 14 mounted on an operating trigger 12 for acting on a shuttle 37 which is slidable within an opening in an elongate extension of the trigger and which has a depending portion 45 for engagement with one or other of pockets 43, 44 in corresponding contact carriers 31, 32 in order to preselec the electrical connections to be switched into circuit when the trigger is depressed to energize the motor. Each contact carrier 31, 32 supports a movable contact such as 52 which is spring loaded by a spring 53 for abutting and sliding engagement with an arrangement of fixed contacts 60-66 mounted on an insulating base as a subassembly 22. In the OFF position an upstanding contact ear 52a is held engaged by means of the carrier restoring spring 47 with a formation 61a of a fixed contact 61 which terminates in a terminal 61c within the base. On movement of a selected carrier, say 31, by depression of the trigger 12 the contact 52 first pivots under the action of spring 53 for its contact faces 52b and 52c to bridge fixed contacts 62, 65 with a snap action and then continues to slide until ultimately the bridging is between fixed contacts 62, 66. A slot 71 in the subassembly 22 accommodates a circuit board 70 for speed control including resistances 73, 74 and a slider 74 (Fig. 6, not shown) which function in conjunction with the trigger movement and in the full speed position when the contact 66 is engaged the speed control circuit is by-passed completely. The subassembly 22 mounts the terminal ends for the various fixed contacts to which external connections to the motor are made and these are explained with reference to circuit diagrams Figs. 6-8 (not shown).
