Abstract

1,139,920. Porous zeolitic molecular sieve granulates. FARBENFABRIK WOLFEN VEB. 31 May, 1966, No. 24138/66. Heading C1A. Porous zeolitic molecular sieve granulates are produced by mixing powdered zeolitic molecular sieve with a binding agent (and, optionally, water), mixing with either component or with the mixture at least one fine-grained solid material that is (a) completely gasified by chemical reaction, evaporation or sublimation at up to 750‹ C., or (b) soluble in water and/or organic solvents. In the first case, the mixture is formed and heated to 750‹ C. to remove the fine - grained solid. If it is combustible, the temperature must be at least 150‹ C. for 15 minutes in oxygen or an oxygen-containing gas. If the material is volatile, the temperature is over 100‹ C. for at least 15 minutes, optionally in an inert gas instead of oxygen. In case (b), the formed mixture is thermally consolidated at 40‹ to 750‹ C. washed with water and/or organic solvents and the solvents removed by heat or evacuation. The fine-grained solid material particle size may be 1 mm. or less. Specified fine grained materials are charcoal, soot, graphite, coal, coke, sawdust, corn meal, starch powder, generator dust, synthetic resin powders, soluble or volatile inorganic salts (NaCl, Na 2 CO 3 , KCl, CaCl 2 , MgCl 2 , (NH 4 ) 2 - CO 3 , NH 4 Cl) and volatile organic substances (ammonium oxalate). Numerous zeolites are mentioned. Exemplified binding agents are bentonite and kaolinite.
