1,139,509. Switchgear structures. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 17 June, 1966 [30 June, 1965], No. 27739/65. Heading H1N. A metal enclosed switching unit contains bus-bars 14, 16, 18, and two sets of vacuum switches 38, 38A, in tiered formation each controlling connection to the bus-bars of a separate supply circuit. Sliding carriages 13, 13A, are horizontally withdrawable for maintenance, disengaging the corresponding plugs and sockets 25, 23, and 52, 51, (and 25A, 23A and 52A, 51A). Fitting into plug 25 is a spade-ended conductor bar 26 in sliding contact with a wiper arm 28, while a second wiper arm 48 contacts a similar conductor bar 50 fitting into plug 52. Vacuum switches 38, 38A, are actuated by actuators 76, 76A, with suitable spring mechanisms. Shutters 60, 62, close sockets 51, 23, when the plugs are disconnected. A mechanism (not shown) is operable to disconnect the plugs and connections 25, 26 and 50, 52 from sockets 23 and 51 and engage the bars 26, 50, with earthing sockets 64 and 66. Current transformers 68 and 68A are provided in compartments 56 and 56A. Many features are similar to those of Specification 1,107,033.
