Abstract

542,420. Switchgear structures. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., TRENCHAM, P. R. H., and REGIS, E. D. Aug. 5, 1940, No. 12602. [Class 38 (v)] In withdrawable metal-clad switchgear, extension conductors to one set of plugging contacts, for earthing the cable or busbar, are avoided by providing the movable portion of the gear with a displaceable plugging contact or contacts 10 which can be moved from the position in which it connects the associated breaker-terminal 15 with the fixed cable or busbar contact to that in which it is connected with an earthed contact located on the fixed part of the gear and displaced from the cable or busbar contacts. The conductor 10 is shown as mounted on a disc 13 pivoted to the wall of the movable part of the gear which wall has an arcuate slot 14 so that when withdrawn, 10 can be moved to the position in which, when replaced and the breaker closed, the cable or busbar connected to the other breaker-terminal is earthed. The connection between 10, 15 comprises a disc 16 pressed axially by spring 17 against the terminal. Specification 243,165, [Class 38 (v)], is referred to.
