Abstract

1,139,152. Purifying acylamido-containing colour couplers. EASTMAN KODAK CO. 9 Jan., 1967 [21 Feb., 1966], No. 1083/67. Heading C2C. Colour couplers containing an acylamido group are recovered from a used photographic colour developing solution by a method comprising acidifying the used colour developing solution to precipitate the coupler and its unacylated derivative therefrom, separating the precipitated coupler and derivative from the solution, mixing the wet precipitate containing at least 25% by weight of water with sufficient appropriate acylating agent to reconstitute the unacylated derivative into the coupler and with the water present to cause the temperature to reach between 77‹ and 121‹ C. and with sufficient free organic acid corresponding to the acylating agent to form a slurry, recrystallizing the coupler from the mixture, washing the recrystallized coupler and drying the washed crystals. Preferred acylating agents are organic acid anhydrides and halides.
