Abstract
1285432 Photographic indazolone magenta colour couplers ILFORD Ltd 6 Jan 1971 [7 Jan 1970] 823/70 Heading G2C [Also in Division C2] Magenta colour couplers for incorporation in the silver halide emulsion layer of a colour photographic material comprise indazolones of the formula in which Q is either -NH-R or -N (T), where R is a carboxylic acyl radical containing an amido or imido group the N-atom of which is attached, directly or via a phenyl group, to an alkyl group containing at least 10 carbon atoms together with a free carboxylic group and T is an acyl radical which completes an imide ring and contains an alkyl group having at least 10 carbon atoms, the ring to which Q is attached being optionally further substituted. The couplers are used by dissolving them in aqueous alkali, preferably containing a water miscible alcohol, and adding the solution to the silver halide emulsion prior to coating. The coupler may be initially in the form of the 1-acetyl derivatives, the acetyl group being removed by hydrolysis in aqueous alkalis. The couplers containing imide rings are hydrolysed to the amic acid form in alkaline solution. Example I describes the preparation of a photographic layer.
