[Also in Division A5] Novel compounds of the formula where R is C 1-5 carboxylic acyl and A is C 3-15 . alkylene substituted by one or more -O-R 1 groups, R 1 being H, C 1-5 alkyl or C 1-5 carboxylic acyl, and A being optionally broken by one or more oxygen bridges, or physiologically acceptable salts thereof, are obtained by reacting a compound of theformula or salt thereof with a compound of the formula Y.A.X (where each of Y and X is a halogen atom) or with a corresponding epoxide compound obtainable from Y.A.X by splitting off hydrogen halide, optionally treating the product with an alkylating or acylating agent and recovering the compound as such or in the form of a physiologically acceptable salt, such as the sodium or methylglucamine salts.
