Abstract

1,139,143. Magnetic switches. G. B. JEFFERY. 9 Oct., 1967 [26 Sept., 1966], No. 42938/66. Heading H1N. A movable magnet switch such as that described in Specification 1,115,966, has its movable magnet member arranged so as to actuate magnetic contacts to their closed position and during subsequent movement, provide a reduced magnetic field to retain the contacts closed. In Fig. 1, the contact reeds 2 are not magnetized when the surface 9 of the magnet 3 is adjacent the reeds but are magnetized to close the contacts when passed by a magnet projection 7 or 8, in accordance with the direction of rotation of the disc magnet 3. The surface 4 of the disc 3 between projections 7 and 8 is sufficiently near to the reeds 2 to provide a contact holding flux. The contact reeds are enclosed in glass envelopes (not shown) and the magnet disc passes adjacent the reeds, and not merely the envelope thereof. A rotary switch having six reed contact units as shown may act as a three phase stepping switch.
