Abstract

1,138,509. Sifting apparatus. SWECO Inc. 25 April, 1967 [4 May, 1966], No. 19654/66. Heading B2H. To prevent clogging of a circular flat screen 22 which is clamped in a cylindrical housing 16, 17, 25 and is vibrated together with the housing by eccentric weights 13, 14 driven by a motor 12, a container 30 partially filled with freely moving metallic spheres 31 is positioned above the screen 22 and is arranged to communicate to the screen additional vibrations produced by the impact of the spheres against the container during vibration of the screen housing assembly. As shown, the container 30 is attached to a centre post 21 carried by an inverted dish-shaped tensioning member 20 for the screen which is also tensioned at its periphery in a clamping ring 23. Material to be screened may be fed to the centre portion of the screen via a feed cone 35 which is attached to the post 21 and may be provided with ports 36 at or near its bottom. Alternatively, the cone 35 may be attached to the material feed system (not shown). Oversize material is discharged through a port 26 and undersize material falling through the screen on the member 20 is discharged through a port 18. The housing 16, 17, 25 is supported by a ring of springs 11 on a frame 10. In another arrangement (not shown), the member 20 and the post 21 are not present and the container 30 is positioned above the centre of the screen by radiating struts affixed to the clamp ring 23 or the wall 25 of the housing.
