Abstract

1,138,062. Antifreeze. SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ N.V. 2 May, 1966 [27 May, 1965], No.22568/65. Heading C4X. An antifreeze composition comprises a watermiscible alcohol, a di-alkali metal hydrogen phosphate, a heterocyclic benzo-compound with the general formula in which the benzene ring may contain at least one substituent alkyl radical, B represents a CSH or CSM group (where M represents an alkali metal atom) and A represents an oxygen or sulphur atom or an NH group, and a heterocyclic compound of the same general formula in which the benzene ring may contain at least one substituent alkyl radical, B represents a nitrogen atom or a CH group and A represents an NH group. The alcohol may be glycol; examples of the first heterocyclic compound are 2 - mercaptobenzoxazole, 2 - mercaptobenzthiazole, 4 - ethyl - 2 - mercaptobenzthiazole, 2 - mercapto - 4,5 - dimethylbenzthiazole, sodium 2-mercaptobenzthiazole, potassium 2- mercaptobenzthiazole and 2-mercaptobenzimidazole; examples of the second heterocyclic compound are benztriazole, benzimidazole and alkylated derivatives thereof.
