1363691 2 - Phenyl - benzothiazolylacetic acid derivatives TOKYO TANABE SEIYAKU KK 13 Sept 1971 [11 Sept 1970 24 June 1971] 42585/71 Heading C2C Novel 2 - phenyl - benzothiazolylacetic acid derivatives of the general formula wherein each of A and B is a hydrogen or halogen atom or a C 1-4 alkyl, C 1-4 alkoxy, hydroxy or di-C 1-4 alkylamino group, M is an OH, NH 2 or OZ group (Z is a cation) and the CH 2 COM group is attached to the 5- or 6-position of the benzothiazole ring, are prepared (a) when M is an NH 2 group, by reaction of the corresponding 2- phenyl-5- or 6-acetylbenzothiazole of the general formula with ammonium polysulphide; (b) when M is an OH or OZ group, by hydrolysis of the product of (a); (c) when M is an OH or OZ group, by heating a 2-phenyl-5- or 6-acetyl-benzothiazole of the second general formula above with sulphur and a secondary amine and hydrolysing the resulting thioamide; and (d) when M is an NH 2 group, by ammonolysis of a corresponding ester. Pharmaceutical compositions having antiinflammatory, analgesic and antipyretic activity comprise, as active ingredient, at least one 2- phenyl-benzothiazolylacetic acid derivative of the first general formula above, in admixture with a physiologically compatible carrier or excipient.
