A loom is driven by a reversible electric motor through a clutch and brake operated by an electromagnet controlled by a circuit including relays, a timing switch driven by the loom, and three pushbuttons marked START, STOP, and REVERSE. A D.C. operating voltage and a lower holding voltage are provided for the relays and an A.C. supply is provided for the contactor controlling the motor, which is left running continuously. The arrangement is such that when the STOP button is pressed or the warp stop motion operates, the timing switch brings the loom to rest at back centre, but the other stop motions bring the loom to rest before beat up. The loom can be turned forward for one revolution by pressing the START and STOP buttons in succession and keeping the latter depressed until the loom stops again at back centre. When the loom has stopped in another position, it can be returned to back centre by pressing the REVERSE button; the loom is then declutched at back centre by the timing switch, but the motor continues to run in reverse until the button is released, when it reverts to forward running. To enable the loom to be turned forwards or backwards, the warp and weft stop motions are shorted on operation of the pushbuttons, but if the loom is stopped by the shuttle stop motion it cannot be started until the shuttle has been pushed into the box.
