Abstract
1,137,662. Welding by fusion. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 7 Sept., 1966 [9 Sept., 1965], No. 38576/65. Heading B3R. Blade discs 1B, 1C to be welded end-to-end to form a turbine rotor are shaped to form a welding groove 9 and have co-operating annular projections 11, 13 at the base of the groove, one projection 13 being provided with a sharpedged ridge and the other projection 11 having a mating recess. The root welds are made with a gas, e.g. argon, backing and only partially penetrate the projections ,11, 13. The groove 9 is filled by welding.
