Abstract

1,018,976. Making circular saws; welding by fusion. LANCASHIRE SAW CO. Ltd. March 3, 1964 [March 6, 1963], No. 8871/63. Headings B3A and B3R. In a method of making a circular saw, negative tension is applied by hammering or rolling the sides of the disc 10 between slots 18, where indicated by dashes 23. Pieces of " Stellite " (Registered Trade Mark) or other hard material are welded to the disc periphery between the slots 18. The disc is placed in a clamp 28 (Fig. 4, not shown) and the Stellite segments 26 rest on supports 40. A deposit rod of Stellite is melted with a carburizing flame so that it is bonded to the disc 10 and welded to the segments 26. The disc may be of low carbon steel, stainless steel or any other suitable material. When cool the negative tension will be counteracted by the difference in contraction rate between Stellite and steel. The sides of the saw are finally ground and teeth cut into the rim if required.
