Abstract
1348446 Making bladed diaphragms WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC CO 23 Oct 1972 [1 Dec 1971] 48680/72 Heading B3A [Also in Division F1] A bladed diaphragm for an axial flow turbine or compressor is made by drilling a pair of diametrically opposed radial holes in a ring together with similar holes in a disc, aligning the holes in the ring and disc, welding stator blades between the ring and disc, and then sawing the assembly along a plane P-P<SP>1</SP> coinciding with the holes to form upper and lower diaphragm segments 16a, 16b having part-circular grooves 29a, 29b and 31a, 31b in the mating faces. To facilitate retention of cylindrical sealing rods 30, 33 in the lower grooves 29b, 31b the dividing plane P-P<SP>1</SP> is slightly above the diaphragm centre C so that the lower grooves are deeper than upper grooves 29a, 31a.
