Abstract

1,137,639. Hydrocracking. ESSO RESEARCH & ENG. CO. 23 May, 1966, No. 22952/66. Heading C5E. A process for the production of a fuel suitable for burning in a jet combustion device comprises contacting a charge stock of paraffinic wax having an initial boiling point greater than 650‹ F. with a specified type of catalyst (see below) at a temperature from 300‹ to 900‹ F., a pressure from 500 to 3000 p.s.i.g., and an hourly space velocity of 0À1 to 10 v./v./hr. while in admixture with hydrogen fed in amounts of 2000 to 20,000 SCF/B. The specified catalysts are Group VIII metals, e.g. Pt, Pd or Ni supported on a crystalline aluminosilicate zeolite having uniform pore openings of 6 to 15 Š, or the sulphided forms of Fe, Ni, Co or Mo used unsupported or supported on zeolites, activated alumina, activated bauxite, silica gel, diatomaceous earth, treated clay, HF-promoted alumina or activated carbon. The zeolite may be ion.exchanged. Mixtures of catalysts may be used. In one embodiment a two-stage process is used, the feed being treated over a Pd-on-zeolite catalyst, the product fractionated and that part boiling above the jet fuel range then further hydrocracked over a nickel sulphide on silica-alumina catalyst.
