Abstract

1,137,220. Ignition systems. RANCO Inc. Aug.15, 1967, No. 37556/67. Heading F1B. [Also in Division F4] In a burner ignition control system having sparking provided at electrodes 20, 25, 20', 25' of which electrodes 20, 20' are connected to the secondary winding 34 of a transformer T the primary winding 33 is connected across an A. C. power supply by circuitry which includes a diode D1, a silicon controlled rectifier 36 having its gate 38 connected to a neon discharge tube 40 and a resistence capacitor network C1, R2 connected to the other terminal of the tube 40, the current for energizing the primary winding being obtained from a capacitor C2 connected in parallel with the primary winding and the rectifier 36. When capacitor C1 has been charged to the neon tube discharging potential the capacitor discharging through the tube triggers the rectifier 36 whereupon capacitor C2 discharges through the primary winding causing sparks at the igniter electrodes. In a modification the silicon controlled rectifier and neon tube are replaced by a breakdown diode.
