In a multiple, retractable ball-point pen, refills 9, spring loaded into the retracted position, are housed in a drum 14 having a plurality of axial bores 13, which drum is axially aligned with the barrel 5. A head 18, having a shaft 17, 16 is rotatably and axially mounted on the drum 14, so that a side-operated plunger 20 may be aligned with a selected reservoir by rotating the head 18 relative to the drum 14. The selected refill is projected by depressing the plunger 20 in a line parallel to the axis of the pen, whereupor a spring 24 projecting radially from the shaft 17 into a slot 13a of one of the bores 13 latches the selected refill in the projected position. The plunger 20 is returned to its normal position by spring 22 and the selected refill is re leased from the projected position by rotating the head 18 to force the spring 24 radially inwards. A cap 27 axially mounted on the head 18, has legs 27a, which enable the pen to stand in an inverted, vertical position.
