Gas/liquid contact apparatus comprises a casing with a gas inlet 13 and a gas outlet 28 and within which a drum 25 is mounted on a shaft 19 for rapid rotation therewith, the. drum carrying on its external surface filaments 57 and having a corrugated surface in which apertures are formed, one series of apertures being more remote from the axis of rotation of the drum than a second series so that in operation liquid supplied to the interior of the drum passes out through the first series of apertures and the gas from inlet 13 passes into the drum through the second series of apertures I centact between gas and liquid occurring along the filaments and in the space between the casing and the sides of the filaments. The drum may be made of helically wound channel-sectioned members 48 and 49 and the filaments attached to a fringe-member secured within channel member 49. As shown the drum is cylindrical but in a modification it may be frusto-conical and two drums in one housing may be traversed by the gas in series.
