Abstract

944,999. Web drying apparatus. PETRIE & McNAUGHT Ltd. July 31, 1962 [Aug. 10, 1961], No. 28882/61. Heading F4G. A rotatable screen drier comprises screens 2, Fig. 2 (only one of which is shown) through which the air is withdrawn by fans 6 (one of which is shown) arranged coaxially with the screens and having no separate casings but discharge the air radially into a common fan chamber formed in the drier casing by a partition 9 from which the air passes over heating elements 11, 12, into the space above the screens. Each screen is carried by rings 17, 19, Fig. 4, at their ends which run on rollers provided on brackets on the drier casing at each end of each screen, the ring 19 at the end of each screen remote from its associated fan having an internal ring of teeth 20 engaged by a pinion 39 mounted on a shaft 37 which is driven via bevel gears 35, 36 from a motordriven line shaft common to all the shafts 37.
