Abstract

In a device for holding yarn under adjustable tension to facilitate stringing-up, comprising a housing having a passage with a fluid-jet for advancing the yarn through the passage under tension, at least one roller is located in the passage to engage the yarn and impart to it additional tension. In Fig. 12, (not shown) a housing (212) carries a tube (214) in the bore of which is a concentric tube (204) and a nozzle (216). The other end of the tube (214) is connected to a source of fluid under pressure, which travelling past the nozzle to an outlet (220) through the annular space between the tubes (214, 204) creates reduced pressure on the far side of the nozzle which communicates with a tube (210). When this is applied to a yarn end it is drawn through the tube (210), the nozzle and tube (204) to a waste container. If it is desired to increase the tension on the yarn a roller (208) in the housing is made accessible by sliding the tube (210) off a seat (224). This roller is rotated by a fluid motor driven by the output from tube (220) and the yarn is wrapped around it and the tube (210) restored to its seating. In another form, the housing has two rollers mounted on a plate which can be rotated to vary the extent to which the yarn wraps the rollers. Figs. 9, 10, (not shown). The housing, Fig. 4, (not shown) contains a tube (58) at the level of the rollers which are carried by the cover (62) of the housing; one end of the tube is applied to the yarn end, and the other is subjected to reduced pressure when it engages a seating (72) on a nozzle (24) so that the yarn is drawn through the tube and housing to waste. The tube can be slid to the right by a handle (74) moving in a fixed track (76) parallel to the tube; at the same time, a button (78) on the tube engages a cam-track on the cover (62) of the housing to rotate the cover and bring the rollers to positions where they are wrapped by the yarn to an extent determined by which of a series of notches (122) the button is made to engage.
