Abstract
864,274. Pelleting laquer. OLIN MATHIESON CHEMICAL CORPORATION. Jan. 12, 1960 [Feb. 10, 1959], No. 1086/60. Class 87(2). An apparatus for pelleting laquer comprises a vessel 1 having laquer inlet and outlet ports 2, 3, a perforated cylindrical extrusion chamber 9, means for forcing laquer into the chamber 9 and out of the perforations into the space between the chamber 9 and vessel 1, a plurality of taut cutting wires 16 to cut the laquer into pellets and means for rotating the wires 16 and maintaining them a fixed distance from the chamber. In the apparatus of Fig. 2 the wires 32 revolve over a flat extrusion plate 21. Graphs are given showing the relationship between (a) the diameters of the orifices and wires and (b) the diameters of orifices and the clearance between the orifices and wires. Two or more wires may be radially located to cut each extrusion into two or more pellets.
