Abstract

<PICT:0845759/III/1> A chemical reaction between gases is accelerated by passing the reactants into a chamber whose cross-section approximates its length, and having mounted therein perforated partitions through which the reaction mixture flows with sufficient velocity to prevent the back-flow of the product. A suitable apparatus used to convert NO into NO2, consists of a reaction tower divided into chambers by bubble plates A, B, Fig. 2, to constitute chambers of approximately the same cross-section and length, in which are mounted apertured plates L1 L2. Preferably the apertures in the plates are staggered. A number of such plates may be used so that the gaseous reactants follow a labyrinth path, promoting turbulence.
