Pneumatic tube terminal stations, located in rooms in which different stages of shoe manufacture are performed, are connected by flexible tubing to a bank of terminal stations in a progress control room, these latter stations being connected either to a common suction source or to individual suction sources, whereby information regarding work in hand in the various rooms may be sent in cartridges to the control room. Each control room terminal, Fig. 3, comprises a box 3 coupled at 9 to a suction source and provided with a coupling 21 for the flexible tube 22 and with a loading opening 26 and coupling 27 for the flexible tube 28. The inclined front wall 5 is provided with an access opening 16, normally covered by a hinged closure flap 17 formed with an opening 18 which is normally closed by a pad 20 on a hinged flap 19. Incoming cartridges engage the trip blade 24 of a switch 23 on the side wall of the box 3, thereby actuating a counter 45. The terminal in each room, Fig. 4 (not shown), is substantially the same as the control room terminals except that the loading opening is normally covered by a pivoted flap and the coupling connectng the loading opening with the associated flexible tube is formed with an opening communicating with the interior of the box. Each cartridge, Fig. 6 (not shown), comprises a hollow cylindrical container having a closed snub nose end and an open rear end. The container is formed with a collar on its outer surface adjacent the rear end.
