Abstract

1,199,932. Pneumatic conveyers. LAMSON ENG. CO. Ltd. 9 Oct., 1967 [7 Oct., 1966], No. 44888/66. Heading B8A. A pneumatic tube carrier conveying system comprises a pneumatic tube line 10 having a station 22 intermediate end stations A, B, each of the latter having pumps 19, 20 for alternatively suplying air under pressure or vacuum to the line 10, and the station 22 having a carrier entry or exit aperture 23 for the outlet of air under pressure or the inlet of air under vacuum. Each end station A,/B includes an aperture 14 for the entry or exit of a carrier, a sleeve 15 slidable along the line 10 to cover the aperture 14 and buttons 26, 27 for controlling the pressure and vacuum pumps 19, 20. In operation, when a carrier is to be transferred from an end station A or B to the intermediate station 22, the air pressure pumps at both stations A and B are operated whereby the carrier is transferred along the line 10 only as far as the intermediate station 22. When a carrier is to be transferred from the intermediate station 22 to one of the end stations A, B, the vacuum pump at the end station to which the carrier is to be delivered is operated. For carrier transference between the two end stations, the air pressure pump is operated at the entry station for the carrier and the vacuum pump is operated at the exit station for the carrier. A plurality of intermediate stations may be incorporated in the system, the one selected for entry or exit of a carrier being the only one having its aperture open. The other apertures may be closed by a sleeve slidable over the aperture or by a pivoted flap, both of which are operated by a solenoid. In another embodiment, Fig. 7 (not shown), the apertured area of each intermediate station is sealed in a housing having a solenoid-operated door.
