Abstract

113,403. Levy, J. July 31, 1917. Torpedo screens.- Screens are carried by folding frames having locking-means for holding them rigid when in the lowered position. Each folding frame comprises a pair of pivoted arms 6 carrying a frame 7, 8, 9 connected bv braces 10 to blocks 11 sliding in slotted guides 3 and raised by ropes 14 and winches. A screen 13<a>, preferably of chain mesh, is secured to each frame 7, 8, 9, and a similar screen 13<b> to the braces 10. When the blocks 11 are raised, the screens are folded against the ship's side, as shown. The blocks 11 are slotted at 13 to engage the pivot pins 12 so that any impact on the screen tends to bind the blocks 11 and lock them in position. A vertical shaft may be fitted, provided with projections which can be turned to engage the blocks and hold them in their lowered positions.
