Abstract
113,397. Keall, F. B. June 30, 1917 Hulls, strengthening by filling with compressed gas.-To reduce the scantling of a submarine or other vessel, the larger part of the hull is filled with gas under pressure preferably at a greater pressure than the hydrostatic pressure to which the vessel is subjected. The main hull is fitted with air-tight, hatches AH and is adapted to be filled with compressed gas by means of a compressor AP and valved connexion ap; a valved vent EP being provided to release the gas when necessary. Modifications are described showing the invention applied to hulls comprising one, two or four parallel cylinders with or without skin and deck plating and to submarines having separate working chambers charged with air at atmospheric pressure.
