Abstract

1,133,838. Cartons. LUMALAMPAN A.B. 23 Feb., 1966 [24 Feb., 1965], No. 7935/66. Heading B8P. A carton of plastics, cardboard, &c., for two or more electric light bulbs includes a flexible partition 8 which separates and supports the bulbs, and is connected to two opposite faces 2, 2<SP>1</SP> of the carton by flaps 11, 12/12<SP>1</SP>, one of which, 11, is spaced from the partition 8 by a section which lies against but is unattached to the greater part of the corresponding face 2<SP>1</SP>. In the embodiment shown two bulbs are inserted from either end of the carton with their smaller ends projecting in opposite directions, the larger ends pressing against the partition 8 which is provided with a central slit 10 to enable opposite halves of the partition to flex in opposite directions to accommodate the bulbs in staggered relationship. The partition 8 is provided with lateral score lines to assist in this flexing motion, which is further facilitated by the folding of the unattached section away from the face 2<SP>1</SP> (see Fig. 3, not shown). The partition 8 tapers across the width of the carton, having its narrow end adjacent the flaps 12, 12<SP>1</SP>. The carton is made from the blank of Fig. 1 (not shown), in which the partition (8), and the flaps (11, 12, &c.) are formed as an extension to the face (1). Flaps (2<SP>11</SP>, 3 and 4, 5) on the faces (1, 1<SP>1</SP>) respectively, together with flaps (6, 6<SP>1</SP> and 7, 7<SP>1</SP>) on faces (2, 2<SP>1</SP>) respectively provide the means for closing opposite ends of the carton. A carton for containing several bulbs may be formed with more than one spaced flexible partition, for example by modifying the partition section (8) of the blank of Fig. 1 (not shown), to provide further tapered portions capable of being folded into additional partitions within the carton.
