Abstract

1,133,804. Spring upholstery. NOBUYOSHI SAITO and K. FUJIKAWA. 21 Dec, 1966, No. 57311/66. Heading A4M. A hollow, rolled sheet, seat frame member 4 is formed with a longitudinal, hollow ridge 3 with a pair of spaced openings 5 with edges formed with shoulders 6 limiting lateral displacement of the end of a sinuous spring 2 engaged through the openings 5 and beneath a bridge 7 defined in the ridge between the openings 5. The spring end bears on the underside of the bridge 7 and on the edges of the openings 5 adjacent the shoulders 6 to prevent rotation of the spring under load. In a modification (Fig 2), one lower end of the bridge (7<SP>1</SP>) is cut away to form a gap (8) through which the spring end is inserted, the gap (8) being subsequently closed. In another embodiment (Fig. 3), the bent free end (a 2 ) of the spring (2<SP>1</SP>) is engaged in one of a pair of keyhole slots (9) formed in the ridge 3 opposite the shoulders 6. In a further embodiment (Fig. 4) the frame 4 has a flange (10) defining a channel in which the ends of sinuous, seat-back springs (211 or 2<SP>111</SP>) are engaged and secured.
