Abstract

1281707 Seat upholstery EXPO-NORD A B 13 Oct 1969 [21 Nov 1968 21 March 1969] 50146/69 Heading A4M An article of furniture including a seat and backrest comprises spaced apart frame bars 4 supported on sub-frame bars 5-7 and interconnected by cross-bars 18, each frame bar including an outwardly open channel 8 with open ends in which an edge of a web 10 extending between the bars 4 is anchored by a wire 12 disposed within the web edge, and the ends of the cross-bars 18 being engaged in holes in the spaced bars 4 so that the bars 4 are held in position by the tension in the web 10. As shown, Figs.1, 3, a further web 14 (or spaced strips) has beaded ends 13 engaged in further channels 9 and a cushion pad 15 is disposed between the webs 10, 14. The cross-bars 18 may be adjustable in length to vary the tension in the webs 10, 14. In another embodiment, Fig. 6 (not shown), the pad 15 and web 14 may be replaced by an inflatable cushion (57) with beaded edges engaged in the channel 9. In a further embodiment, Fig. 5 (not shown), each spaced bar (4f) has a laterally open channel in which is engaged a beaded edge of a doubled web (53) or tube in which is located padding (55) or which may be inflated.
