Abstract

1,257,927. Seats; upholstery. BRITISH RAILWAYS BOARD. Nov. 27, 1969 [Nov. 27, 1968; July 16, 1969], Nos. 56324/68 and 35924/69. Headings A4J and A4M. A single length of netting material is held under tension along its peripheral edges on a support frame, therby forming a back and seat supporting surface, the back supporting surface being formed with a forwardly projecting portion which is in the region of the upper pelvic/lumbar area of a seated human. Each side frame (11 and 12), Fig. 4 (not shown) may be slidably supported on a cross beam 13 so that the tension of the material can be altered by adjusting the spacing of the side frames. The side frames 11 and 12 may be formed from hollow extruded aluminium members 16, 19 having continuous slits (20, 21), Fig. 5 (not shown) in which the side edges of the material 30 are engaged either by a cord 25 threaded through a hem in each side edge or by a PVC runner 26 which is heat sealed to the side edges of the netting 30.
