In order to minimise the vertical thickness of a car seat cushion, the side members of the seat frame are of open or angle section members 2, while the frames of the seat and back also each include at least one transverse tubular member. The members may be metal or, alternatively, the side members (102, 103, Fig. 6, not shown) may be formed integrally with a reinforced synthetic seat pan (150) formed by pressing. Runners 6-9 permit the fore-and-aft adjustment of the seat, and legs 12, 13 have holes 14 to enable the seat to be secured at the desired height and inclination. Sponge rubber cushion 23 has an absorbent overlay 24 and a pervious cover 25. The side rests 26 are supported by bars 28, 29. The cushion 23 is supported on spring bands 21 secured to the side members 2, 3 by hooks 20.
